Sorry about the delay everyone, but I just got completely bogged down with a huge helping of life this weekend. I haven’t missed a deadline since 2007 started until right now, and I feel terrible about it – but I just simply didn’t have the time to finish the page up and make it look good before Monday started.

The page is illustrated, inked, and has the first set of color layers on it. However, I wanted to get a product out that was worthy of Joe’s previous page, and the flat color tone just wouldn’t cut it in my book.

I’m going to work my ass off tonight and get it done before the podcast that I listen to on Mondays.

Sorry that I suck, but I think that the page will be worth the extra day’s wait.

Hey gang, just wanted to announce that @$$hole has reached its 25th strip!

Although I’m in the middle of a story arc right now and wasn’t able to do anything special (comics usually consider #25 to be a milestone, and then continue to celebrate in quarters), I just wanted to announce that I hope each and every reader that I have has enjoyed reading the strips as much as I have enjoyed making them. They’re a ton of fun, and I have some great stories down the road. Keep supporting, and I’ll be sure to keep making them come out on a regular basis!

Thanks,

My allergies kicked in full-force last night, and I have been miserable ever since. I had thought that I was coming down with something over the weekend, due to lack of sleep and increased stress, but apparently that is not the case – it was allergies.

Sorry to everyone who called me last night and invited me out to the club – I would have loved to hang out with you guys, but I had enough problems breathing in my smoke-free apartment, and cringe to think what I may feel like today had I gone out last night. Also, I was able to get some productive work done instead of going out, so I feel pretty accomplished.

As promised, the next Exile 3 teaser poster is finished and placed in my Sketches section. I don’t think I’m going to do the final poster idea, since I hate all of the designs that I’ve been working on for it. It was going to be the King of the Cosmos being destroyed, and the headline would read “A King Will Fall.” Truthfully, I think the quality of the posters has gradually decreased by each one that I’ve done – but since the original one was going to be the only one, I don’t see the harm in flexing some of my artistic muscles and playing a bit.

Keep it a secret, but the Exile 3 page that I was working on (which kicks off the start of the series – I always seem to be kicking off the series again after a hiatus) is already posted. I’ll link to it later, but it exists somewhere on the internet already – which had to happen, so Carl and Scott could work on their pages. I’m going to be working on page #37 next, but wanted to see their designs for the preceeding pages first. Once all the pages are done, they’ll go live on the Exile site, so check them out.

In the meantime, I’m going to try to fight off these allergies so I can have an enjoyable 4th of July – instead of blowing my nose every 3 seconds, like I’m doing right now. Gross.

New @$$hole on Friday. Be sure to check it out.

Carl, Scott, and I finally got together last weekend and started the Exile 3 pages. We’re going to get the first 6 done, and then pass it off to others who would like to keep it going. Scripts are available, as we want to end this story and then we can begin working on a new one – an Exile 4, if you will.

I was able to finish the illustration and inking over the weekend, and most of the coloring is finished, however I’ve run into a slight production snag in some of the effects that I’m trying to create. It’ll only set me back a few days, and the page will be off to Carl so he can start working on the next page.

Hint: the snag is a social life. It’s a good thing to have, but it does sometimes get in the way of things.

I also have 2 more poster designs ready to be worked on. I plan to get those done next week, assuming no more social interruptions / special events. The headlines are as follows:

“An Alliance is Forged”
“A King Will Fall”

I’ll let the images play around in your heads until I finally post them on here, but they will rival Scott’s very awesome poster of Moby’s face. (Or at least, I can hope)

In any case, expect some updates very soon, with some new content! Yes, new Exile 3 content. Also, feel free to sign up and join us on the forums, let us know a little about you – introduce yourself. And if you’d like to join us and contribute to the Exile, tell us that to.

Another promotional poster for Exile 3: Serpentine that I worked on over the weekend. I like this one less than the first, because I didn’t have any light source to work with. Also, this character’s outfit is much more light than the previous, so it makes the same design difficult to use. However, I still think it’s a neat poster and I look forward to making the next one.

Exile has always been fun for me to work on because it challenges my artistic abilities, especially when it comes to coloring. It gives me the freedom to experiment with different styles and layouts, which I couldn’t necessarily get away with in my regular books. Also, it lets me introduce characters more regularly than I would in my normal books (too many characters confuses a reader, but since the Exile cycles through storylines every 30-50 pages, new characters are coming along everytime we start a new Exile story).

Again, check out the poster and leave me feedback on the forums or on MySpace. Later!

I mentioned back in the day that Exile 3: Serpentine was finally coming to an end. Scott, Carl, and myself all sat down and wrote out the final pages, outlined what would happen and who would do what, and then Scott eventually posted a rudimentary script on the forums. However, nothing’s happened since.

Meanwhile, I have a few creative opportunities at work that require me to submit a portfolio, but none of my stuff is current – I’ve only been working on comics for the last 3 or so years. So a thought occurs to me: why not combine the ad elements that I need in a portfolio and apply my comic skills in design and illustration, and thus make a current portfolio with content that may not necessarily apply to the clients that I would be working on, but that shows off a little more range in my abilities. Hence, the poster idea was born.

This was originally going to be a stand-alone poster, but then I got it in my head to do a short series of them with the other characters. One will feature Giddeon and The Reaper, with copy that reads “An Alliance is Forged,” while the final will have Clistro and says, “A Hero Will Rise.”

I’d like to rework the copy on that last one to fit the present tense, though. I have a few ideas, and a little time to put it together. Expect updates throughout the rest of the week and weekend.
